It may only be the end of July, but it’s already back to school season in Shelby County. All county schools are back in session on either the 4th or 5th of August this year. It’s time to get out and catch all of those back to school deals before they’re gone.
Most local stores that carry school supplies also have supply lists for the county’s schools so you can check off the items you need. Many of the schools also have the lists posted on their individual websites for download. You’ll find a lot of great deals on the basic supplies, so be sure and check out the store fliers to see where you can get the best prices on what you need.
Hopefully buying school supplies and paying the book fees are not too much of a burden for your family. For many local families though, it can be difficult, especially with multiple children. If your family is able, you might consider picking up extras of the basics such as pens, pencils, crayons, and folders. There are many places set up for you to donate these items such as our own local SCUFFY agency’s Stuff the Bus drive or the Salvation Army. You can also give supplies directly to teachers for their classrooms.
Teachers are always in need of classroom supplies. Check with your children’s new teachers and see how you can help. Education is always more successful when it’s a team effort. If you want to get even more involved with the schools, check with the local Parent Teacher Associations to help with fundraising and events at your school.
I hope everyone has had a great summer. Enjoy your last week of summer freedom. Soon everyone will be fully involved in school activities like football, soccer and cross-country and all of the the old routines will take back over. Next thing you know, it will be Fall Break. Good luck, and be sure and check out the school calendars attached below for your school district.
