The month of May is a great time to live in the Greater Indianapolis area. May brings with it numerous events to add to the every day fun that can be had in the area.
Of course, around Indianapolis, “The Month of May” takes on a life of its own due to its relation to the Indy 500. There are festivities in and around the track throughout the entire month. There are parades, foot races, concerts, Grand Balls, and lots of racing. You can watch practices and qualification runs in addition to the 500 mile race itself. This year there’s even a new road race to be held using the infield portion of the track known as the Grand Prix of Indianapolis.
There’s more than just racing in the area though during May. You can see just about any sport you want. We’ve got baseball, soccer, hockey, and basketball just to name a few. Victory Field, home of
the Indianapolis Indians, is known as one of the best fields in Minor League Baseball. Spending a beautiful afternoon with the family in the outfield viewing area makes for a perfect May day.
May also comes with the opening of area farm markets. Whether it’s a large one like the Original Farmer’s Market at the Indianapolis City Market, or a smaller town market like Shelbyville’s, you’re sure to find wonderful fresh produce and artisan foods to complement a spring meal.
May also comes with Holiday Festivities like Cinco de Mayo, Mother’s Day, and Memorial Day. These all provide a chance to get together with family and friends for good eats, family fun, and remembrance.
While some of these places and events are particularly highlighted by the month of May, the reality is that many of these, as well as a host of others, are available year round in Central Indiana. It makes living, working, and playing here a daily adventure.
