It Might Not Be the Economy

Neon Open Sign

Who loves their trade?  I do.  I love every aspect of communications, whether it be Morse Code or complex Modulated signals.  Second question: Who loves operating a business?  Whether it’s balancing the books or getting customers to use your services or buy your product, operating a business is not what most entrepreneurs like most about their business.

Most people love their trade.  I have been in Telecommunications most of my life and it’s my passion, but, the part I didn’t particularly care for is the marketing of my business, the phone calling, the getting customers to find me and worst of all, finding customers.

Unfortunately, I do not have a flood of customers banging down my door to buy my product.  Do you?  According to an  American Retail Associates study, 34 percent of sales are made Online! 66% of people seeking products to buy look online before they buy!  I asked my daughter the other day if she’s seen the Yellow Pages, and she didn’t know what I meant.  She’s never even opened one!!

How do your customers find you?  Are you the business person that opens your shop and turns on the OPEN sign and hopes for the best?  How’s THAT working?  Yeah, I know; the Economy….right? NOT!  How do you get your business into view of a customer that is more than a town away?  Wouldn’t it be nice to get customers from out of town without having to open a store there?  Today’s technology is an awesome asset to small and medium businesses that want to get more sales.

You DO want to get more sales don’t you?  If you are a small or medium business owner/operator and want to see what a website or faster internet or less expensive phone service will do for your business, contact Shelby Chamber of Commerce.  They are the BEST resource for your business.  Join it and find out.

Call Scott Polston at Mach 1 PC (317-398-3572) and ask him how modern technology helps both him and his customers business.  He’ll tell you.  Look in to web designers, marketing on and offline businesses at the Chamber, they’ll tell you.  It’s time to stop living in the past and getting with the present business technology tools for your business.  It’s not the economy that’s ruining business, it’s the tools businesses are using to get their name out there that may be the problem.
